Kl’sarza class
Kl’sarza class (FASA-2301)
The Kl’sarza class, known as the D-16 to Starfleet, was named for a Klingon word meaning “swift wind,” and was produced at Iosia from 2246-2268. Of the 192 constructed by 2281, 27 were in reserve fleets, 123 had been destroyed, eleven had been captured (six by Starfleet), eight were listed as missing, three had been scrapped, 16 had been sold to prominent houses within the Empire, and 4 had been sold to private interests within the Triangle.[1]

K’t’inga class command pod (ST-01)
The K’t’inga class,[2] which meant “bringer of destruction,” was introduced in mid-2269 and was a match for the Federation Constitution class and Romulan S’ten Vastam (V-6) class cruisers. This gave the Klingon Defense Force a slight advantage along its borders, and the Klingon Empire began to press the balance more aggressively. Both the Romulan Navy and Starfleet commissioned upgraded versions of their vessels shortly after the appearance of the K’t’inga class in order to hold the Klingons in check. Within two years after its introduction, 75% of all facilities producing the D-7 had been converted to manufacture the K’t’inga, allowing the Klingons to place more and more of these ships in sensitive areas.[3]

K’el Ri’anda class
K’el Ri’anda class (FASA-2301)
Constructed in mid-2271, the K’el Ri’anda class was the first attempt by Klingon ship designers to construct a battleship, rather than a cruiser or frigate. In March 2279, a K’el Ri’anda, escorted by six D’ath D’lan (D-11) class ships, attacked a group of Romulan ships near the Triangle, consisting of a single S’ten Vastam (V-6) class cruiser and three Vas-Tagor Lattam (T-2) class destroyers. The Klingon commander, confident in his new ship, pressed the attack, only to find the Romulan cruiser his equal. After several exchanges of fire, the Klingon force had suffered the loss of three D’ath D’lan class ships, and serious damage had been done to the K’el Ri’anda; the Romulan cruiser had received moderate damage, and one destroyer had been eliminated. The Klingons, wary of losing the battleship, began to withdraw, but the Romulan commander decided to launch a counterattack against the Klingons. The battleship still had plenty of fight left and was able to disable another of the Romulan destroyers. At this point, both sides disengaged; the Klingon ships withdrew to Klingon space, while the Romulan commander returned to the area of the battle and salvaged what he could of his ships, taking in tow a disabled D’ath D’lan. This skirmish proved to the Klingon Defense Force that the K’el Ri’anda still needed improvements. Of the 21 K’el Ri’anda class ships built, 20 remained in active service in 2281, and one was missing and presumed lost. The ships were constructed at Taamar and were produced at a rate of two per year. The class name, K’el Ri’anda, translated to “the dangerous fat man;” the brunt of many jokes about being more dangerous to their crews than to the enemy, these ships were also known to Starfleet crews as “the fat man” and “the turtle.”[1]

J Class

J class, separated (ENT-46)
The J class freighter was somewhat smaller than the Y class, but otherwise similar.[2] Unlike the Y class, however, J class freighters could readily separate from their cargo containers, making the vessel a much smaller, more maneuverable ship.[3] Such freighters were usually armed only with low-yield plasma cannons for meteor defense, but most crews upgraded as soon as they could. Enterprise NX-01 helmsman Travis Mayweather, who grew up on the J class freighter E.C.S. Horizon, acknowledged that “running freight is dangerous … you’re a dozen light-years from home with 20 kilotons of dilithium ore in your hold, armed with nothing but a popgun for shooting oncoming meteors. What would you do?”[2] In 2265, Harry Mudd’s J class ship was destroyed in an asteroid field, though he was rescued by the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701.[1]

K’t’inga class (ST-06)
The K’t’inga class HaH’vat,[2] commanded by Captain Kang, encountered the U.S.S. Excelsior NCC-2000 in the Azure Nebula in 2291.[1]

I.K.S. Gr’oth IKC-4175
D-7 class (DS9-503)
A D-7 class battlecruiser commanded by Captain Koloth, the Gr’oth[2] visited Deep Space K-7 for shore leave in 2268. The ship became infested with Tribbles, thanks to the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701,[1] which gave the crew additional incentive to join in the Great Tribble Hunt.[3]

Friendship 1
Friendship 1 (VOY-267)
Launched from Earth in 2167, the Friendship 1 probe had traveled to the Delta Quadrant by the late 24th century. The U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656, which was also in the Delta Quadrant in 2377, discovered that the probe had crashed on an M-class world, where the inhabitants were nearly wiped out from radiation released upon its arrival.[1]
