Defiant (Mirror)
Defiant class (DS9-537)
Starship constructed by the Terran Resistance in the Mirror Universe for use in their struggle against the Alliance. The Defiant was a close copy of the Federation starship of the same name from the Prime universe, and was built using technical information on the Defiant class downloaded by Miles “Smiley” O’Brien during his visit to the Prime universe’s Deep Space 9 in 2371. “Smiley” was able to download the schematics from Deep Space 9’s computers and brought them back to the Mirror Universe, where construction began at Terok Nor, which had come under rebel control. While construction proceeded well with materials stolen from the Alliance, the Defiant‘s powerful warp core nearly caused the ship to shake itself apart during test flights. With an Alliance fleet on its way to retake the station in 2372, O’Brien enlisted the help of Professor Jennifer Sisko to bring Captain Benjamin Sisko into the Mirror Universe, so that he could solve the problems on the Defiant. Sisko was able to iron out the problems and even commanded the Defiant in the Battle of Terok Nor against Regent Worf‘s fleet, helping to turn the tide in the war against the Alliance.[1]

U.S.S. Defiant NCC-75633
Defiant class (DS9-537)
Originally named the Sao Paulo, the Defiant-class ship was rechristened Defiant in 2375 after coming under the command of former Defiant commanding officer Captain Benjamin Sisko, in honor of its sister ship,[2] which had been destroyed weeks earlier during the Battle of Chin’toka.[1] The new Defiant played a pivotal role in the final battle of the Dominion War, the Battle of Cardassia.[3] Following the conclusion of the war, the Romulan Senate moved to allow the Defiant to retain the Romulan cloaking device that it utilized. Recognizing the importance of the vessel, and Deep Space 9, as the first line of defense against further Dominion attacks.[4]

U.S.S. Defiant NX-74205
U.S.S. Defiant (DS9-537)
Defiant class (ST-08)
Lead vessel of the Defiant class; the Defiant was officially classified as an escort, but began development in 2366 as a small, highly-powered, heavily-armed starship intended to defend the Federation against the Borg. The Defiant was the first of what was to be a new Federation battle fleet. Starfleet abandoned the project when the Borg threat became less urgent and after design flaws turned up during the Defiant‘s shakedown cruise.[1]

I.S.S. Defiant NCC-1764 (Mirror)
Constitution class (TOS-10)
In the Mirror Universe, the Terran Imperial Starship Defiant was in service in the 23rd century. The Defiant was destroyed by a Tholian force led by Loskene in 2268, after Loskene had demanded the Defiant retreat. Its recorder beacon was recovered from the Defiant‘s wreckage by the I.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701. Despite standard precedure to retaliate against any military that attacked a Terran vessel, the Empire did not respond to this particular attack, per the recommendation of Captain Spock to Emperor John Gill, in light of the Empire’s greater concern at the time with the growing Klingon-Cardassian Alliance.[1] It’s unclear if this Defiant is the prime reality starship, having remained in service for over a century after arriving back in time, or a newer Constitution-class vessel with the same name.

U.S.S. Defiant NCC-1764
U.S.S. Defiant (TOS-64)
U.S.S. Defiant (ENT-94)
Construction began on the Constitution-class Starship Defiant at Tranquility Base, Luna,[7] in the 2250s. During the early years of her service, the Defiant conducted many missions of importance for Starfleet, and constantly patrolled the Klingon Neutral Zone as tensions between the two powers continued to rise. During that time, the Defiant became the sixth Federation starship to encounter the N’shaii, and was easily able to dispatch them.[3]

Defiant class
Defiant class (DS9-537)
The Defiant class, first commissioned in 2370,[1] differed from most other Starfleet designs in many ways. It was primarily designed for military purposes, having been developed to fight the Borg, beginning in the months before the Battle of Wolf 359 in 2366. Following that incident, Lieutenant Commander Benjamin Sisko joined the development team at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. Besides conventional weapons, the ship had pulse phaser cannons and quantum torpedo launchers. While other ships of the class were built, the U.S.S. Defiant NX-74205 was the only Starfleet vessel equipped with a cloaking device, due to a special amendment to the Treaty of Algeron, intended to allow the Defiant to covertly gather data on the Dominion, which would then be shared with the Romulan Star Empire.[1]

Daedalus class
Daedalus class (Legacy)
The Daedalus class came into service in the 22nd century.[3] They were one of the first types of starships commissioned and operated under the auspices of the United Federation of Planets and were also among the first to demonstrate the primary/secondary hull design that would become characteristic of Starfleet vessels.[6] Unlike most starships, the Daedalus had a spherical main hull.[4] The last ships of this class were taken out of service by the year 2196.[3]
