Hayes

The commanding officer of the Military Assault Command Operations (MACO) officers assigned to the Enterprise NX-01 mission to the Delphic Expanse, Major Hayes had previously undergone lunar training. Despite outranking Lieutenant Malcolm Reed, Hayes would refer to him as “sir,” in deference to Reed’s position as the ship’s chief of security/tactical officer. Hayes clashed with Reed when the major suggested that Reed’s men were too valuable to take on a risky rescue mission.^[1] Hayes later accompanied Captain Jonathan Archer on a landing party to a kemocite refinery, run by a Xindi Arboreal named Gralik Durr.^[2] The conflict between Hayes and Reed came to a head in December 2153, when the two came to blows during a training session.^[3] Several weeks later, Hayes assumed command of the Tactical station, then the bridge itself, when Archer came under the influence of a Xindi Insectoid hatchery.^[4] Hayes was killed in action while leading a boarding party to a Xindi Insectoid ship to rescue Ensign Hoshi Sato in mid-February 2154.^[5]
