Human. Starfleet Serial Number SA-476-2549-CM.[1] Born in La Grande, Cuba,[1] Richard Robau was the captain of the U.S.S. Kelvin NCC-0514 in the early twenty-third century, and his first officer was Lieutenant George Kirk, Sr.[1, 2]


ST11 Timeline

On Stardate 2233.04, the Romulan ship Narada emerged from a rift in spacetime that had transported it 154 years into its past. The Narada immediately attacked the Kelvin, pausing only to allow Captain Robau to travel over to the more advanced ship via shuttlecraft. The Romulans pressed him for information, but when it became clear that they had traveled through time, their captain, Nero, killed Robau and resumed the attack.[2]

Portrayed by Faran Tahir.[2] The character was named “Pierre Robau” in the novelization, but the film gives his first initial as “R,” and other sources refer to him as Richard.

George Samuel Kirk, Jr.—called “Sam” only by his brother, Jim[2]—was the elder son[1] of George and Winona Kirk.[3] In 2265, George—who was married with three children—saw his younger brother off on his first mission as captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701.[1] Two years later, George, a research biologist, was on Deneva with his wife, Aurelan, and one of their sons, Peter, when the planet was attacked by a species of neural parasites. While Peter survived, George was killed before his brother could arrive with the Enterprise, and Aurelan later died in the ship’s sickbay.[2]

ST11 Timeline

On Stardate 2233.04, the ST11 timeline was created when a Romulan ship, the Narada, emerged from a singularity that had transported it 154 years into the past. The Narada immediately attacked the Kelvin, sending Winona, who was pregnant with the couple’s second child, James, into early labor. George was killed in the attack, sacrificing himself aboard the Kelvin so that the crew—including his wife and newborn son, who were aboard Medical Shuttle 37—could escape.[1] Winona remained in Starfleet, and her duties sometimes separated her from her sons, whom she would leave in the care of their Uncle Frank.[1, 2, 3]

After the death of his brother-in-law, Frank took in his nephews George and Jim at his home in Riverside, Iowa, when his sister,[4] Winona was off-planet due to her duties as a Starfleet officer.[1, 2, 3] After his death aboard the U.S.S. Kelvin NCC-0514, George left his classic Chevrolet Corvette to his brother, Frank.[2, 3]

Portrayed by Greg Grunberg (voice). In the deleted scenes available on the Star Trek (2009) DVD and Blu-Ray releases, Frank was portrayed by Brad William Henke.
