The first of a new generation of Warp 5 starships designed for long-term space travel and scientific discovery, the NX class Starship Enterprise was launched in April 2151 under the command of Captain Jonathan Archer. The Enterprise NX-01 was the culmination of more than three decades of research and development at the Warp Five Complex by Archer’s father, Dr. Henry Archer, and other scientists inspired by warp pioneer Zefram Cochrane. The Enterprise‘s Warp 5 engine put humanity within reach of thousands of inhabited worlds, compared to the small handful at lower warp speeds, for the first time.[1]

Except for two alien crewmembers—Vulcan Subcommander T’Pol and the Denobulan Dr. Phlox—the 83-member crew was entirely human (approximately two-thirds male, one-third female); the best and brightest, hand-picked by Starfleet.[1]

The Enterprise was decommissioned in 2161, after ten years of service under the command of Captain Archer, and placed in the Starfleet Museum, where it remained well into the late 24th century.[4]

E60 Timeline

In the E60 Timeline, the Enterprise was severely damaged during battle with the Xindi in 2153, limiting the ship to a maximum speed of Warp 1.7. Following the destruction of Earth in 2154, the Xindi began to ruthlessly hunt down the remaining Humans. The Enterprise was one of only four Starfleet ships left, and escorted a group of some 6,000 survivors to settle on Ceti Alpha V. The Enterprise was destroyed in 2165, when the Xindi became aware of this final Human refuge. After nearly all of the crew had been killed, Jonathan Archer triggered a subspace implosion that destroyed the ship; the implosion also eliminated the parasites that had infested his brain in 2153, and due to the unique temporal properties of the parasites, they were eliminated in the past as well as the present, preventing his infection and altering the timeline.[2]

E73 Timeline

The Enterprise NX-01 (E73) was from an alternate timeline in which the ship had been transported a century into the past. When the ship, now crewed by the descendants of the original crew, encountered the Enterprise prior to its journey into the past in the Delphic Expanse, the actions of both crews prevented the original Enterprise from traveling through time. The Enterprise was traveling through a subspace rift, however, when the timeline changed, allowing the crew to retain their memories of the E73 timeline after it was eliminated and reabsorbed into the Prime timeline.[3]
