Alpha Quadrant species. Lorillian children were born with the ability to breathe only methyl oxide (provided via an inhalation apparatus when off-world). This meant that mother and child would deal with a difficult weaning process when the child reached age four. Commander “Trip” Tucker observed a mother and child engaging in this process, and assumed the child was being suffocated. T’Pol corrected him.^[1]

Loque’eque

Species that lost the ability to reproduce several centuries before 2153. In an effort to preserve their once-flourishing society, the Loque’eque created a mutagenic virus that transformed other species into their own in order to prevent extinction. When infected, individuals experienced an overwhelming urge to travel to the Loque’eque’s home city, Urquat. Captain Archer, Lieutenant Reed and Ensign Sato were all infected with the virus when they visited the Loque’eque homeworld. Luckily for them, Dr. Phlox managed to synthesize an antivirus that reversed the changes.^[1]

Kreetassans

This Alpha Quadrant species had a very complex language—which made for a problematic first contact with the Enterprise NX-01. In the Kreetassan culture, eating and mating were considered to be similar activities, and the Kreetassans were therefore deeply offended when they observed the Enterprise crew eating in public. The crew tracked them down again when a strange, symbiotic organism transferred itself from the Kreetassans’ ship to the Enterprise, taking some crewmembers captive. Luckily, the Kreetassans had learned English at this point, and were able to communicate effectively with Ensign Travis Mayweather. After Mayweather delivered a proper apology for the crew’s faux pas, the Kreetassans provided him with the coordinates for the mysterious organism’s homeworld.^[1] Captain Archer managed to inadvertently offend the Kreetassans yet again when he and his crew visited the Kreetassan homeworld to obtain a plasma injector. Apparently, Archer’s pet dog, Porthos, urinated on one of the Alvera trees outside the Hall of Diplomacy—the Kreetassans considered these trees to be cultural treasures. Captain Archer later performed an elaborate ritual of apology, which involved using a chain saw to cut pieces from a recently-felled tree and arrange them in a certain pattern.^[2]

Kantare

Alpha Quadrant species. The Enterprise NX-01 discovered a derelict Kantare ship and its remaining crew on an otherwise uninhabited planet in 2151. The Kantare crew had survived on the planet for more than two decades following the crash-landing of their ship. Later, Captain Archer and his crew learned that the ship’s engineer, Ezral, had actually manufactured holograms of most of the Kantare crewmembers—the only survivors of the shipwreck were Ezral and his daughter, Liana.^[1]

Gel-Worms, Immunocytic

Part of the menagerie of life forms Dr. Phlox kept aboard the Enterprise NX-01 for medicinal purposes.^[1]

Fire Wolves

Animals found on a rogue planet encountered by the Enterprise NX-01. It was unclear whether this was an actual species, or merely how the native shapeshifter species, the Dakala, appeared to the Eskan hunters.^[1]

Eskans

Captain Archer and the Enterprise NX-01 crew encountered this species of hunters on a rogue planet in 2151. For nine generations, Eskan hunting parties had stalked and killed the indigenous life forms on the planet, a sentient species which they call Dakala. Archer and his crew were able to put a stop to the hunts by providing the Dakala with a masking agent.^[1]

Drayjin

These boar-like creatures were hunted by the Eskans for sport and food on the rogue planet Dakala. It was unclear if the Drayjin was an actual lifeform, or if this was how the Eskans saw the rogue planet’s native species of shapeshifters.^[1]
