Bioship (VOY-168)

The Undine[2] (aka Species 8472) used this type of organic starship. Bioships were able to regenerate damaged systems, and were equipped with powerful energy weapons. In 2373, the Undine used this kind of ship to invade our universe. The crew of the U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656 came up with a way to destroy the bioships—by infusing Starfleet photon torpedoes with Borg technology.[1]

Edged weapon. The Kaylar on Rigel VII used these weapons.[1] The Klingons also used swords, including a unique design called a bat’leth.[3] Humans used swords as well, including a design called a rapier used in the sport of fencing.[2]

Photon Torpedo

Self-propelled missiles consisting of a small quantity of matter and antimatter bound together in a magnetic container, used as a tactical weapon by Federation starships.[2] Photon torpedoes are the preferred weapon when a ship is at warp drive since they are not limited by the speed of light, as ship’s phasers are.[1]

Jean-Luc Picard was born in 2305, in the French town of Labarre on Earth.[17] His parents, Maurice Picard[17] and Yvette Gessard Picard,[2] were staunch traditionalists who brought him up with a very strong sense of his cultural roots and family history. The Picard family shunned modern technology such as replicators, and Maurice clearly hoped that Jean-Luc would stay in Labarre like his elder brother Robert.[17] Jean-Luc, however, was fascinated by space from an early age. He made several visits to the Smithsonian Institution, where he saw the Phoenix—the ship in which Zefram Cochrane made the first warp flight[33]—and he started building models of spaceships, such as a Promellian battle cruiser, in bottles.[11]
