The formal name of the Cardassian homeworld—although natives often informally dropped the “Prime.”[1] Its capital city was awash with giant and continuous state-controlled messages extolling self-sacrifice, order, and subservience to the government—with a characteristic emphasis on the family and children. The central prison was located on the planet.[2] An ancient Bajoran solar sailor’s crash site on the planet was kept secret out of pride until Commander Sisko and Jake’s historic trip recreating the accomplishment in in 2371.[3] Cardassia Prime was one of dozens of worlds devastated economically with the old order’s collapse and the subsequent Klingon invasion a few months later.[4]
