The Na Ra’den class, designated T-12 by Starfleet, began production in mid-2279. It was the largest assault ship in the Klingon fleet during the late 23rd century, and was capable of putting its entire contingent of 2400 troops, 56 light support vehicles, and 28 heavy tanks on the ground in less than fifteen minutes, which made it very difficult for any enemy to repel them. In most assault operations, these ships operated in groups of three, and the number of groups depended on the complexity of the operation.[1]

The largest number of these vessels used in a single operation was in March 2278, when the Klingons invaded and captured Mrzicann; the Klingons fielded 24 Na Ra’den class ships, which beamed their troops and vehicles to the surface with such speed and precision that the defenders were forced to surrender within twelve hours. Mrzicann’s standing army of 800,000 was overwhelmed by the element of surprise and, in many cases, gave up without a fight. To prevent a repeat occurrence, Starfleet stepped up its monitoring of the vessels, tracking their location and movement.[1]

The Na Ra’den class was capable of traveling at a sustained speed of Warp 7, which allowed them to be an integral part of any invasion force. These vessels carried eight disruptors, though their limited range prevented the ships from engaging other ships except when in close quarters.[1]

Of the 102 Na Ra’den class ships built, by 2281, 88 remained in active service, two were used by the Imperial Marine Training Command, and twelve had been destroyed. The Na Ra’den class was constructed at Fonawl, Iosia, and Mustaka, with a combined production rate of 14 per year. The class name came from the Klingon phrase “carrier of doom,” in reference to the strike force it could deliver so rapidly.[1]
